(Ancient City, Samut Prakan on Oct 5, 2003)


       Samut Prakan Province    is at the far end of the Chao Phraya River, where it empties out into the Gulf of Thailand. The borders to the north and west join the Metropolitan of Bangkok. To the south is the sea and the east Chachorng Sao Province.Samut Prakan was built between 1620-1628 inthe Ayuttaya era. The original site for the city was on the west side of the river at Phra Pradaeng. In 1819,King RamaII commanded to have Samut Prakan re-located across the river at the small fishing village of Paknam. At the same time he built forts along both sides of the river in order to defend the approach to Bangkok. Today, the city is still commonly known as Paknam despite the change of name and status 180 years ago.
The Ancient City (Gateway to Thailand's Cultural Heritage) MUANG BORAN,is an excellent reflection of thailand's multi-faceted ancient culture e in an authentic and visually exciting setting. Through symbolic architectural styles and fine arts,its various structures and natural surroundings are harmoniously unified,allowing visitors to witness the continuous flow of Thailand 's history,culture,religion and art,as well as past and present customs and traditions of its people. It is a place where Thais can perceive and recognize their roots and heritage,and overseas visitors can gain an insight into the Thai ways of life.
The Ancient City,MUANG BORAN,is like an open book of history and an open door to the real Thailand.  Here you will find numerous reproductions of palace halls, temples,stupas,stone sanctuaries and traditional houses. You can also visit serveral reconstructed historical buildings, authenticated communities with their inhabitants doing their daily chores and sample villages from all regions of the country. What's more, these awe inspiring historical and cultural symbols have been further enhanced by their surroundings, specially created and subtly merged, to reflect a social and cutural atmosphere of the past. New creations such as the Sumeru Mount, thr statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin ,and the garden of thr Gods have also been incoporated to convey the cultural and religious beliefs of people in these ancient communities.
Crocodile Farm
            
This is the world's largest crocodile farm with over 60,000 crocodile. It also boasts the largest crocodile in captivity. Named Yai, it is 6 metres (19 ft 8 in) long and weighs 114.27 kg (2465 lb). There are daily show and Elephant show. There are also many other animals in the zoo. Most of the crocodiles are in the big ponds. You can stroll along walkways and throw food down to the crocodiles. The younger ones can be found in the nursery.
Thailand officials from the Samutprakan crocodile zoo post next to Chai Yai's the world's largest captive crocodile, June 10 during celebrations marking Chai Yai's 28th birthday. Chai Yai has been recognized by the Guiness book of World Records as the largest captive crocodile and celebrsted its birthday with a feast of whole chickens and fish.
